Over 80 five-star Google reviewsCommon Chimney Problems We Fix
Leaking Chimney
Water entering the fireplace, ceiling, or walls around the chimney system.
Cracked or Deteriorating Chimney Crown
Crown damage lets water penetrate directly into the structure, accelerating internal wear.
Failed Flashing Around the Chimney
Where the roof meets the chimney is one of the most common leak points — failed flashing sends water straight inside.
Spalling or Cracked Brick
Moisture damage causes brick faces to break apart and mortar joints to fail.
Porous Masonry and Mortar Breakdown
Brick and mortar absorb water over time. Without protection, that leads to spalling, cracking, and structural issues.
Fireplace Smoking or Won't Draft
A fireplace that puffs smoke into the room, won't stay lit, or smells often needs firebox, damper, or venting repair.
Missing or Rusted Chimney Cap
Without a properly fitted cap, rain, animals, and debris can enter directly into the flue.
Draft Problems or Smoke Entering the Home
Poor draft or blocked flues can cause smoke or carbon monoxide hazards.
Most chimney leaks are misdiagnosed. Water rarely shows up where it gets in, and surface-level fixes fail within a few seasons because they treat the symptom instead of the source. We identify where water is actually entering the system — then correct it there.
Not sure which problem you have? Start a quick problem diagnosis — pick the symptom you're seeing and get a clearer idea before you schedule.

Why Homeowners Choose Chimney Experts

Owner-Operated, Start to Finish
The person who inspects your chimney is the person who quotes the work and does the repair. No handoffs, no details lost between crews.
No Commissioned Salespeople
Nobody here earns a commission for finding problems. The recommendation you get is the repair your chimney needs — not the one a quota needs.
Camera-Documented Findings
Every inspection is photographed, with drone shots where the roofline is hard to reach. You see the cracked crown or failed flashing yourself before anyone talks price.
NFPA 211 Trained, Code-Based Repairs
Inspections follow NFPA 211, the national chimney and venting safety standard, and structural repairs are built to residential building code (IRC).
Fully Insured
Insured for the work we do on your roof and inside your home — with clear, insurance-ready reports and estimates when a claim is involved.
15+ Years of Chimney Experience
Hands-on experience with Louisville's masonry chimneys, factory-built systems, and wood-burning appliances — and the failure patterns each one develops.

Meet David York
David founded Chimney Experts in 2016 after more than 15 years of hands-on chimney and masonry work — and it's still owner-operated today. When you book an inspection, David is the one who runs the camera, does the repair, and walks you through the photos of both.
He's a certified chimney professional, NFPA 211 trained, and fully insured. Retained as an expert witness in Kentucky chimney litigation (Streck v. Shah, Ky. Ct. App. 2020).
Fifteen-plus years of Louisville-area chimneys means the freeze-thaw cracks, failed flashing, and aging prefab systems around here follow patterns he's seen hundreds of times — the difference between an accurate diagnosis and an expensive guess.

Found on Camera
AfterHidden Chimney Fire Found on Camera — Crestwood, KY
The fireplace suddenly pushed smoke back into the living room. Our camera inspection found why: a chimney fire had already burned inside the prefab system without the family ever knowing — hardened creosote had choked the cap and the chase sheathing was charred.
Cleaning couldn't make the system trustworthy again, so we replaced it from the firebox up, rebuilt the chase, and finished with new stone and a new mantel.
Before
AfterRusted Chase Cover Replaced in Stainless Steel — Louisville, KY
A galvanized chase cover had rusted through, pooling water on top of the chimney and streaking the chase below with rust stains.
We photographed the damage, then fabricated and installed a custom stainless steel chase cover with a sloped top that sheds water instead of pooling it.
Before
AfterChimney Cap Installation to Stop Animal Entry — Mockingbird Valley
The homeowner called after bats were getting into the house through the chimney. The top of the chimney lacked proper protection, leaving the flue open to animal entry and weather exposure.
We installed a properly fitted chimney cap to close off the opening, keep animals out, and protect the flue from rain and debris — documented before and after.
Before
AfterLeaning Chimney Rebuilt With Lightweight Veneer — Prospect, KY
This chimney chase had been built entirely from brick, and the wood framing below was carrying more weight than it should have been — over time the whole structure visibly leaned toward the roof.
We dismantled the leaning chase and rebuilt it with a lighter brick veneer system, new flashing, and a stainless steel chase cover — the masonry look without the load that caused the lean.
Don't Let Minor Chimney Damage Turn Into Structural Repairs
Small cracks, crown deterioration, and flashing leaks rarely resolve on their own. A documented chimney system evaluation today can prevent larger structural repairs later.
